Why are you perfect for this job?
I love life. I find joy in the simplest things, from the hilarious warning signs on the back of random labels to bumper stickers, to the fact that I am fortunate enough to live in a great city, surrounded by great friends and family, working in a job I love in an attempt to make the world a better place. Aside from my work, I spend a great deal of my free time working for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and have raised more than $30,000 over the past few years to fund a cure for blood-related cancers. This is my passion. Like I said, I love life. However, I don’t live the world wearing rose-colored glasses, don’t get me wrong. I have experienced loss. I have watched loved ones die of cancer, watched as friends suffered similar pain and have seen my share of misfortune. I still recognize that I am more fortunate than 99% of the people in the universe and I count my blessings every day. So, aside from explaining my positive outlook on life, here are my technical qualifications for this position. I have ten years of PR/Marketing/Advertising experience working for companies in every type of industry you can imagine. Currently, I work in the health care industry because I want the work I do to matter. I am a supervisor for a large hospital system where I manage newsletters, employee and physician communications and love the work I do. I am a writer by trade and that is my primary skill. I am a go-getter, people person (I know a lot of PR people hate that term, but in my case, it’s true. I love people and get along with most everyone.) and am extremely efficient and, at times, opinionated. :o) I enjoy social media, I am on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and have a great network of people here in the Triangle. Blogging is such fun and I can’t imagine anything more fun than writing every day about what random thing I experienced that put me in a good mood on any given day.
How do you maintain your good mood naturally?
I find joy in just about everything. Did you see the recent story on the Today Show on "teacup piggies?" Seriously?? Those pictures and videos were great enough to put me in a good mood for days. Also, I have five sisters, parents and nine nieces and nephews. My family is my rock and they bring me joy every day. If I am exhausted after a long day at work, five minutes with my two-year old niece puts me in a great mood. I find joy everywhere and believe that is the secret to living a happy life. Life is too short and unpredictable to not experience every moment with a smile.
