Can SAM-e cause an anxiety attack?

Although quite safe and typically well tolerated, there have been rare reports of SAM-e causing anxiety in people with depression. Drugs or supplements that can affect certain neurotransmitters in the brain can have unpredictable effects in some patients. In many cases, such side effects are dose-related, that is to say the higher the dose, the more likely the side effect. Instead of jumping from a dose of 400 mg to an 800 mg dose, perhaps a slower titration or an intermediate dose may be helpful (perhaps 600 mg).

Wishing you good health,
