Q: Is it OK to take SAM-e if I have heartburn?
Although SAM-e can cause stomach upset, it is not know to worsen heartburn. It is also not known to interact with the medications commonly used for heartburn. Overall, SAM-e is very well tolerated. Of course, if you experience a worsening of heartburn symptoms after starting SAM-e, consider stopping it to see if the symptoms improve and/or discussing the situation with your physician.
