25 Feel-Good Movies

I let you all know about some feel-good books and songs, but there are also plenty of movies out there for you to enjoy either alone or with a loved one. Of these films, some are uplifting, some are romantic, and some are just plain hilarious. This is just a short list of 25, but I’m sure there are plenty of other films that put you in a good mood.

1.    Legally Blonde – Reese Witherspoon stars as Elle Woods, a sorority girl who ultimately triumphs over stereotype to show she knows as much as any stuffy lawyer.
2.    Slumdog Millionaire – An Indian teen becomes a contestant on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” and uses the hard-knock life experiences he’s faced to amaze and inspire his country.
3.    Forrest Gump – “I’m not a smart man.” Tom Hanks stars as this simple title character, who lives obliviously through important historical moments while pursuing his childhood love.
4.    Dirty Dancing – “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.”  A story of romance, dancing, and hunky Patrick Swayze.
5.    Father of the Bride – Every little girls dream and every dad’s nightmare – the wedding. Steve Martin delivers a truly accurate and hilarious performance.
6.    Good Will Hunting – This film is a great example that all it takes is someone believing in you to know what your real potential is.
7.    Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – Ferris Bueller is the coolest of the cool, and when he decides to take a day off, he does it right!
8.    Billy Elliot – Anybody who has ever been a kid knows what it is like to want to do what you love the most. For Billy, it is dancing. You won’t be able to help yourself either when you watch this flick.
9.    Shrek – This movie has something for kids as well as adults, and the animated fairytale world is impossible not to love. Even the bad guys are lovable.
10.    Shawshank Redemption – While not a film for everyone, this tale of redemption will give you a sense of being able to overcome anything just so long as you have the patience.
11.    The Princess Bride – “As you wish…” In this classic love story, not even death can keep Wesley away from his true love.
12.    Finding Nemo – This film shows us that friendship and unconditional love will prevail no matter what the circumstances are. Even if there are sharks and dentists.
13.    When Harry Met Sally – If you don’t laugh and cry during this movie, you might want to watch it again. And again. One of my favorites.
14.    Rudy – I love a good underdog story, and this one takes the cake. Even a weak runt can become a football star if he wants it bad enough.
15.    Garden State – Going home again can be tough when you haven’t exactly “made it” the way you expected. Nonetheless, love and life can be tricky sometimes—in a good way.
16.    The Music Man – 76 trombones led the big parade! This fun musical will have you singing along no matter what your age.
17.    Remember the Titans – This is a sports movie that actually has less to do with sports and a lot to do with integration and triumph of spirit.
18.    Mary Poppins – Superfragalisticexpealadocious! Need I say more?
19.    Toy Story – This is one of those classic adventures of old meets new, and how you have to learn how to adapt when the going gets rough. More importantly, it’s a story about toys and what they might do when you’re not around.
20.    The Pursuit of Happyness – Will Smith captures this based-on-real-life saga of a man who takes on the role of being a dad while trying to find his own place in an unforgiving world.
21.    Serendipity – Do you believe in fate? Do things sometimes feel like they were just “meant to be”? Serendipity is the type of movie that shows us that love can be hiding around the corner no matter whether you think its there or not.
22.    Elf – Will Ferrell stars in this hilarious seasonal tale about a fish-out-of-water elf whose optimism and good spirit affects everyone he encounters.
23.    Joe Versus the Volcano – I remember this movie always making me feel glad about what I’ve got. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are as compatible as ever in this adventure story about finding the exciting things in an ordinary world.
24.    Amelie’ – This French film will make you smile even if you try not to. Audrey Tautou’s adorable Amelie’ will help you forget your worries.
25.    Four Weddings and a Funeral – This movie proves that friendship is important when it comes to love, life and death.

I could probably keep this list going for days, but I’d love to hear about some of the movies that make you feel great. Leave me a message in the comments and let me know what I can add.

I love Forrest Gump and Serendipity. And my mood maker is Pride & Prejudice (the first BBC version, 1995?).

Bend It Like Beckham was a great feel-good movie. If you would have seen it, I would almost guarantee it would be on the list.
