7 Fun Outdoor Water Activities Just in Time for Summer

I used to love playing in the sprinkler when I was a kid. Nowadays, it might look a little silly to go out into the yard and start Slip N’ Sliding, but there are still plenty of ways for kids of all ages to beat the heat in the summer. You’re never too old to enjoy cooling off with some fun in the sun with a water gun. Check out these fun activities that will put you in a good mood for sure.

•    Water Balloon Toss – A water balloon toss is a fun and carefree way to soak your friends and have a little rivalry without hurting each other. Just fill up some balloons as much as they’ll go without breaking, form two lines, and toss the balloons back and forth between partners. Take a step back after each round so it becomes more challenging.

•    Home Made Slip n’ Slide – Slip N’ Slides can be a lot of fun, but you don’t necessarily need to spend money on a store bought version. You can make one at home by yourself. All you need is some plastic, a hill, and plenty of water. Here’s a guide to building your own homemade Slip N’ Slide.

•    Water Gun War – Water gun wars are about the only kind of war I could condone. One of the great things about this activity is that you can really surprise yourself and your friends at how much fun you can have. Someone is bound to end up with the hose, though, so make sure to arm yourself with plenty of ammo.

•    Sponge Tag – Sure, we all know how to play tag, but just changing the rules of the game slightly and adding the element of getting wet can really shake things up. Any sort of sponge will work, but for sponge tag, those enormous sponges used for washing cars work best. Just have plenty on hand, and toss them at one another the same way you would in ordinary tag. If you get hit with a sponge, you’re out! This game can be lots of fun for hours. Here’s another list of other fun outdoor water games for the kids.

•    Sprinkler Sports – My favorite way to cool off is by running through a sprinkler. There are even those moments of spontaneity that require you to run through one if you see it in someone else’s yard. You can easily make up your own games with a sprinkler, but here is a list of some other sprinkler games for summer.

•    Community Pool – Going to a community pool is a great way to not only have fun with your friends and get the kids together, but to meet new people and enjoy the community itself. Plus, swimming is great exercise that can do wonders for your mood, too. If you want to find a community pool in your area, check out this swimmer’s guide.

•    Water ParkWater parks are another way to get out of the house this summer and get the whole family involved in some summer fun. You can celebrate birthdays or have a get-together with friends and their kids and make a big day out. The fun rides and exhilarating slides are a good way to get into a great mood for you and your whole family, so find a water park in your area and gather the gang.
What are some of the ways you have fun in the summer? Cooling off and splashing around are just some of the ways you can beat the heat, but how do you enjoy staying in a great mood no matter how hot it gets?
