7 (More) Tips to Immediately Improve your Mood

A few months ago, I gave you a list of 7 things you can do to immediately improve your mood. (Ok, so it actually ended up being 6. Thanks for pointing that out in the comments!) Since so many people responded in the comments section that they enjoyed these tips, I thought I’d find a few more.

Hopefully you’ll find these tips for putting you in a great mood as helpful as I did.

  • Talk to an Old Friend – I can’t tell you enough how important my friends are to me, but inevitably, there are a few friends who I haven’t been able to keep in great touch with. Whether it’s because they’ve moved away or started new jobs or families, people can sometimes fall off the radar. Nowadays, keeping up with friends is easier than ever with social networking sites like Facebook (you can connect with me here!) or MySpace. Getting in touch with someone online who you haven’t talked to in a while can really reinvigorate your good mood. Read more at Revolution Health.
  •

  • Read a Novel – There’s something about reading a novel that can immediately transport you to another world. Reading a book with fantastical elements can really take you away from your bad mood, and it will give you a chance to calm down and relax for a while and get your mind off what might be bothering you. Heck, even walking around a bookstore relaxes me if I’ve had a hard day. Check out Ask Yahoo! for some user-recommended good mood novels.
  •

  • Create Something – Draw a picture, write a story, take a photo, make a sculpture, compose a song, glue two sticks together, make spaghetti, it doesn’t matter—if you take time out of your day to create something, it will give you a sense of accomplishment and really do some great things for your mood. The best part is that whatever you create can be yours and yours alone. It doesn’t have to be good or finished or ready to display on anyone’s fridge. Just create and you’ll feel great.
  •

  • Focus on What you Want – If you concentrate on the things that you want to get done or do with your life, it’s a much more positive way to get yourself in a good mood than by lamenting about all the things you don’t want. According to an article on Top7Business, “Each time you have a negative thought, immediately switch it to a positive thought such as a solution to your woes. People who focus on solutions rather than problems are optimistic, happy and very high energy.” Thinking like that makes a lot of sense to me.
  • Hopefully, these tips will be a pleasant addition to the other ways I’ve found that are helpful when it comes to finding a good mood naturally.
