7 Ways to Realize Your Greatness
Sometimes it is difficult to realize all the things that really make you great. What better way to have a great mood every day than to give yourself the fuel you need to believe in who you are. Not everyone has the self-confidence they need in order to be in a great mood all the time, but by following some of these tips, you might just start to realize your own greatness and be the person you want to be.
• Daily Affirmation – By giving yourself a mantra, or some sort of affirmation, you can really start to see in yourself what you want others to see. Try telling yourself every morning: “I am a wonderful person,” and you’ll believe it before you know it.
• Accept Compliments – A lot of people don’t know how to take a compliment. Instead of just smiling and saying “thank you,” they feel they have to justify the praise, or worse yet, negate it. So next time someone says, “I like your hair,” just say “thank you!” instead of complaining about how gross you feel.
• “Yes, and…” – One of the main tenets of improvisation is the idea of “yes, and…” This idea, while seemingly simple, is often ignored. By taking someone else’s idea and expanding on it, you can build some great things together. It is easy to say “no,” but much more satisfying to say “yes, and.”
• Self-Evaluation – What are some of your strengths? What about your weaknesses? Who do you consider your real friends? What are some of the attributes that make you feel good about yourself? These are all questions to ask yourself in the process of honest self-evaluation.
• Write Your Autobiography – Ok, so you don’t need to go into every little detail and write all the aspects of your life, but it can be really rewarding to look back on all the great things in your life and see all the good you’ve done. One of the ways to do that is by writing them down in chronological order, like an autobiography. Think back and rediscover the person you once were, and how far you’ve come.
• Meet a Stranger – Every time I go out somewhere public, I am always interested in people watching, and wondering what those around me are like. What do they do for a living? What are their families like? What are their pets’ names? Take the time to say hello and meet a stranger, and you might even make a new friend. What’s more is that you might change their lives just a bit, and that’s gotta make you feel good.
• Believe in Your Talent – It is easy to look at celebrities and other influential people in the media and think how “lucky” they are. Well, most of the people you see have gotten there through hard work and determination. Though plenty were born into success and have all the material things they could need, it doesn’t necessarily make them happy. If you believe in your own talent and follow through in doing the things you’re good at, there’s no telling what you can accomplish.
