A Moment of Gratitude
“Let us rise up and be thankful for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.” ~Buddha
It’s easy to get sucked into and dwell on the problems and unhappiness in our hectic lives. It happens to us all. And sometimes, life will throw a curve ball at us, jolting us awake, as if reminding us that what we had wasn’t so bad.

You hear stories of people who have had near death experiences, or those diagnosed with a terminal illness, who suddenly become more peaceful, happy and appreciative for the daily miracles surrounding us all – like our breath.
No matter what is happening on your side of the world that is causing you anxiety or a low mood, take a moment to step out of your situation and look at the big picture. Often, we’ll see that there are worse things that could happen to us, and that there are others out there who are less fortunate than we are.
Please understand that I am not trivializing your troubles. I acknowledge them and sympathize. However, I am hoping that you can see, that in any given moment, we have two choices: to continue to dwell on pain by holding onto it, or to practice having a short memory – to move away from your mind and into your heart.
Let’s take a moment to give thanks for all the abundance and miracles in our lives. Let’s give thanks for our bodies, for our hearts working continuously without rest, our mothers for giving us life, our friends for supporting us, and all the beautiful moments we’ve experienced in the past.
The future is based on how we choose to move on, away from this moment. The choice is up to us.

Today I'm grateful for free lunch and for the busy day I'm just about to finish. I'm grateful for my Centergy teacher (a combination of yoga and pilates). I'm grateful for my health as a family member is battling cancer this past year. Mostly though I'm grateful for my husband and partner of nearly 17 years.

I actually had a hard time thinking of something today...its been a rough one but I am grateful for my frederick fakkai glitter hairpray (makes me smile everytime I use it which is only for special occasions), my cat and my dog who love me unconditionally even though I neglect them because of my new job, and this blog which forces me to be grateful for something even when my day has been crappy.

I am grateful that a really special friend, who I have been trying so hard to help through a difficult time, has 'turned a corner', is feeling a little better, and is coming a long way to visit me.

I am thankful for the most wonderful life I could ever ask for. I have so much in my life and only desire companionship, which I hope someday I can find. I can't complain about how fortunate, lucky and blessed I have been with my life. It took me a long time to realize that I truly have had a wonderful life. Sometimes I feel guilty that I have been so fortunate with my life and others have not. I try to help the less fortunate but sometimes I feel it is just not enough. Thank you Lord, for watching over me, taking care of me and blessing me with such a wonderful life.

I am thankful that my friend who is the sole breadwinner of his family will finally land a job that will be able to meet his (and his family's) needs.
