An April Showers Photoblog

We've been having our share of April showers lately.
I've always loved rainy days, but since I moved to Southern California their scarcity has made them a thing to be savored. On perfect warm rainy days like today, I drop everything and find a reason to be outside. Besides I'm always looking for a reason to wear my galoshes.
Colors get brighter in the rain. Flowers that seemed to be dozing off in the heat snap to attention and become more vibrant as soon as the raindrops touch their petals.
Poppies are delicate, but they know how to turn their faces from wind and rain. A flower that is fuzzy and responds to touch; they almost seem like an animal rather than a plant.
A crow on the roof watches the clouds rolling out. There's a whole rooftop society of crows and squirrels and the occasional raccoon living above me that I never think about unless they get loud fighting over a piece of fruit or something.
I wasn't the only one out for a walk in the rain. I thought caterpillars were more of a late summer thing? But with no true winter here dictating when a butterfly needs to be dormant, I guess he can wait to become a chrysalis as long as he wants to. Going from caterpillar to butterfly is a pretty big commitment when you think about it. Carry on, caterpillar. Take your time.
When it rains, snails appear everywhere. I think they are the cutest thing. It was breaking my heart to see them all gleefully snailing across the wet roads in slow motion, being smashed by cars left and right. I found myself picking up snails and depositing them on the side of the road they were headed towards. I even put some in my garden. I'm sure I'll regret that later.
The sun that breaks through late afternoon storm clouds is always the warmest light.

These are gorgeous! I love the brightness of the first flower, it's stunning.
I wish the first photo was a little larger, though!

Hello,Brigitte.
I loved this photoblog combination. I too, love rainy days. When it is a light rain. The colors do look freshly washed during a storm. And, since the overcast disperses the light, pictures can appear softer.
Love the galoshes!

Actually, no new camera yet, I'm still using the borrowed one from my friend. It's a Canon IXUS 430. Just 4 MegaPixels - Am super happy/surprised with the photos it takes!

Why are snails bad for a garden; anyone?

My favorite phrase in the whole post is, "It was breaking my heart to see them all gleefully snailing across the wet roads in slow motion".

I love the new verb: snailing.
