Being True to Who We Are

“Be who you are and say what you feel,
because those who mind don’t matter
and those who matter don’t mind.” ~Dr. Suess

The ultimate freedom in life to is to be who we are.  To step up to the plate of life being fully us, living and speaking our truth at all times, with no apologies and no excuses for who we are.

Being True to Who We AreI love to be alone in my house, music blasting, singing at the top of my lungs and dancing with ecstatic abandon. There is such joy and such freedom in these moments!  Can you imagine feeling this joyful and free all the time? This is what is possible when we decide to just be who we are.

When we are willing to be ourselves, even with our perceived flaws and imperfections, we realize there is nothing left to hide.  We are perfect, whole and complete just as we are.

We do not need to walk around in life donning different masks and adopting various personas, depending on the situation or person we are interacting with.  Living in Truth is freedom at its finest.

Yet often times, we put pressure on ourselves trying to please others, to be approved of, to show how wise and brilliant we are.

When we are complimented or applauded, we feel better.  On the other hand, we get deflated when we offend someone or get reprimanded or blamed or otherwise scoffed and scolded.  We become experts at comparing ourselves to others, and either put ourselves on a pedestal or believe we come up short.

It is time to realize that we are the only ones we need to please.  When we choose walk in our power and speak our truth, we are able to shine brighter than we ever thought possible.

Of course, living in truth is not for the meek of heart.  We risk making waves and “rocking the boat”.  There will be others who will not agree with us.  There will be people who feel threatened or fearful of us for living our truth.  They may criticize or judge us negatively.

It is okay!  Other people’s opinions of us are none of our business! This is what I remind myself of whenever I feel negatively judged by someone else.  When we live in our Truth, we attract into our lives others who are courageous enough to live theirs…the people that really matter.
