Blogs aren't like books. There is no width of paper that equals a whole. No two halves to hold in your two separate hands... measuring with your fingers how far away you are from the beginning and how close you are to the end. With blogs, one day the posts just stop showing up. Today is my last page here.

Hey, Happy Monday! And time has really flown -- we're coming up on my last few days as Good Mood Blogger. June 30th will be my last post! But I'll save the sentimentality and sappy good-bye's for Wednesday. ; )

I saw a morning show segment where Bobbie Thomas made old toothbrushes into bangle bracelets. Apparently you can do this by just boiling the toothbrushes until the plastic gets soft and them shaping them into a bracelet and adding decorations. I was surprised when the finished product didn't just look like an old bent toothbrush. I think I might try it next time I'm done with a toothbrush. And when I shop for a new one, I'll be looking for one with a nice clear glittery plastic handle.

I'm not a huge sports fan. I like watching games where I know someone playing... things like junior high football or backyard badminton. I also like going to baseball games but that's mostly because I like any excuse to sit outdoors in the spring and summer, and I like the noise of a bat hitting a ball.

When I first read this week's Tuesday quote, I had a "duh" moments, which is the opposite of a light-bulb moment. (In a light-bulb moment you realize you've just had a wonderful idea. Instead a "duh" moment is when you realize there is something very obvious that it took you until now to understand.)

The benefits of simplicity have been a between-the-lines recurring theme in my blogs over the past several months.

There is a picture I saw yesterday that I can't get out of my head: it's a photo of a baby bird coated in thick brown oil, standing defeated and confused... not understanding the weight holding him to the ground. He's dying.

If you live in a free country and your life isn't in constant danger from widespread violence, you're incredibly lucky. I know it seems very removed to us here, but freedom and safety are complete unknowns to a huge percentage of the world's population. What you see on the news is just a peek into everyday horrific reality for entire populations.
"Count your blessings" has usually been a suggestion made to those who need to stop feeling sorry for themselves, or see the positive side to a situation. But lately, for me, counting my blessings has been a huge source of motivation.

To all the Valentine's grinches out there who refuse to celebrate the holiday on grounds that it's been manufactured by greeting card companies and corporate candy factories to just make money, I have an idea for you. Don't buy greeting cards and candy made by a huge corporations. Instead make someone's Valentine's Day by giving them something sweet and homemade.

This Quotation Tuesday is a 2-for-1 special. I found these two quotes floating around loose in the world, and decided they would make nice bookends for a day.

As a kid, the only appealing thing to me about witches was the way they would make crazy concoctions in their kettles, knowing just how much of this and that to put in the mix. The riding brooms was cool too, but only in theory. In practice, riding the broom seemed like it would mostly be dangerous and painful.
This is probably why I like making soup.

As adults, we pay attention to our moods because we're aware of how moods affect our work, our relationships, and pretty much every other aspect of life. But our fascination with mood starts way before we start worrying about our professional success and emotional satisfaction.

Here's a little crash-course on how to become a lucky person, just in time for St. Patrick's Day!
I just stumbled upon an article describing (in detail and based on psychological studies) how to make yourself into "one of the lucky ones." The article is 6 years old, but I'm thinking the secrets to becoming a human luck factory should be pretty timeless.
