Children’s Characters Who Will Inspire You and Your Mood
There are some beloved children’s books and shows that have withstood the test of time with their unique stories and strange (but loveable) ways. I’ve written before about how to discover your inner child, and one of the best ways to do that and find your good mood in the process is by getting in touch with how you felt when you first encountered these characters. Here are some of the most interesting and inspirational characters from children’s stories and beyond.

- Charlie Brown – Good grief! Charlie Brown just can’t seem to catch a break. He’s a hard luck kid, but he’s got a group of friends who love him despite what a hard time they give him. With Snoopy, Linus, Schroeder, Peppermint Patty and the rest of the gang, it is easy to remember that having good friends around can make a huge difference in your life.
- Care Bears – The Care Bears have always stood for helping others find happiness, and as cute and lovable as they are, who could not feel great around these little guys? Friend Bear, Funshine Bear, Tenderheart Bear and even Grumpy Bear seem to encompass the gamut of moods, but can make even the iciest of hearts melt with their “Care Bear Stare.”
- The Lorax – Dr. Seuss had no shortage of lovable and bizarre characters, but it is perhaps The Lorax that makes one think twice about how to treat one’s environment. Though the story is a fable that helps us to consider the environmental impact humans have on our environment, The Lorax himself helps to drive the point home. If you haven’t read this, do yourself a favor and pick it up soon.
- Winnie the Pooh – How can you not love Winnie the Pooh? This “silly old bear” and his curiosity can make just about anyone smile. He even helps out the mood swings of his downtrodden donkey pal, Eeyore. Pooh is best friend to Christopher Robin, and reminds us that there is a part of childhood that we should never let go of.
- The Wild Things – In Maurice Sendak’s book “Where the Wild Things Are” a young boy named Max encounters creatures from an imaginary land who take him on a wild journey and teach him a thing or two about being responsible as well as being able to let go. This classic tale is being turned into a movie, so it could be the perfect opportunity to introduce the tale to children in a whole new way.
These are just a handful of the types of characters that can do wonders to revitalize a sense of wonder and happiness in you, no matter what your mood is. So go to the library and check out a book from the children’s section and rediscover an old favorite, or possibly find a new friend.
