Choosing Favorites

I think that nice people often confuse having a preference about something with being difficult to please. But having a favorite doesn't mean you're unhappy with anything less than the best. Instead, knowing your favorites just means recognizing and celebrating certain things that are perfect to you.

If you're not a favorite-picking type, here's a list of 5 favorites that everyone really must have. Start with these.

  1. Favorite way to have your eggs prepared. This might remind you of the movie Runaway Bride, which used the idea that a person needs to know how they like their eggs as a pivotal point in the whole movie. But seriously -the difference between eggs over easy and scrambled eggs is huge. You cannot tell me you like them both equally. If you have no other favorite in the world, you really do need a favorite way to eat eggs.
  2. Favorite flower. If you're a man, maybe you're thinking this doesn't apply to you. But it does. Having a favorite flower means you've taken time to look  at nature up close, and you've found a shape and scent and color that is especially wonderful to you. There are no logical reasons for choosing favorite flowers, and that is why it is important that you choose one.
  3. Favorite drink. It can be a bellini, or a hazelnut latte, or lemon water; it just needs to be a drink that you like every single time.  Because there will be times when you will want to to be adventurous with your beverage, but there will be many other times when the drink in your hand will feel like the only constant in the equation, and you'll want to be able to hold on to a favorite.
  4. Favorite shirt. You need a go-to, secret weapon kind of shirt. A shirt that feels like pajamas and looks like you're not trying at all. But the favorite shirt secretly makes you look like you have a healthy glow to your skin, and you've been working out  for the past month, and somehow you're a little bit more alive than everyone else in the room.
  5. Favorite book or movie. Some people will have a list a mile long of favorite books and movies, while some will struggle to think of just one that they love. In some form, everybody needs to have a favorite story. This can be scary to share, because the story you choose as your favorite can be very telling about who you are. But even if you keep your favorite story a secret, you need to pick one. It will bring you comfort, and remind you of how you'd like the world to be when you need reminding most.

When I read this I tried to imagine what your favourites would be. Here's my list.

1. Poached with the yoke slightly runny.

2. Tulips. Or brightly coloured flowers.

3. Cappuccino? Latte? Whenever you talk about coffee I always wonder how you have it.

4. Hmm. This was hard, but in quite a few of your videos you have this pink woolen shirt on. Is that it?

5. I have very little idea on this one. But for a favourite story I'm thinking Amelie? Or Breakfast at Tiffany's? I think you like that sort of child-like romance.

I have no idea if any of these are remotely true...
