Creative and Fun Autumn Hobbies and Crafts
I’ve always loved the way decorations around the holidays have a unique and handmade quality. Whether it’s a cornucopia centerpiece for your Thanksgiving feast, or a wreath with nestling bird figurines for your front door, it can really make a difference in your home to make and display these homemade decorations. If you want to spruce things up around your home this Thanksgiving, try your hand at creating some of these fun and functional crafts and hobbies.

- Thanksgiving Napkin Holder – This cute and simple turkey napkin ring is easy to make and just the type of thing that will have your family smiling the minute they sit down at the dinner table. Make them once and you can use them every year.
- Basket Buddies – Baskets don’t have to be used to hold random objects or potpourri, they can be transformed into cute and clever creatures for indoors or outside. These peculiar little owls are adorable and crafty, and will make anyone who sees them say “how did you make that?”
- Glowing Hurricane Glasses – From Martha Stewart comes this great, elegant project you can construct with materials from around the house. This project will give you a chance to be creative and stylish all at once, and with this simple how-to guide, you can make as many as you like. Perfect for the dinner table or the mantle piece.
- Wine Glass Stem Charms – Since the holidays inevitably bring houseguests, it is nice to have some adult beverages around to share with your friends and family. But once the wine starts to pour, it is also inevitable that someone will forget which glass is hers. This year, make a few of these fun baubles to help tell the glasses apart, or even have a crafting get-together so everyone can join in on the charm-making fun.
- Dried Flower Basket – With summer over with, you might not see as much foliage around as you did earlier in the year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t display dried flowers in an elegant arrangement perfect for fall. Flowers can make a huge difference in your décor, and dried flowers are just the type of thing that invokes autumn.
The holidays are a time to share with friends and family, and an opportunity to eat too much and have the time you want to relax. What are some of the crafts and hobbies that you enjoy doing with your family that put you in a good mood?

Hi Lisa!
I'm a big fan of getting crafty in the fall. I've never made any of these before, but I'm particularly interested in the glowing hurricane glasses and the dried flower basket.
One of my favorite fall activities is collecting leaves to iron in wax paper. It's a simple little thing, but I love that I can preserve the colors before they dry up and fade in the autumn air. (When I'm home in Boston, that is).
When I used to work with kids, we made little characters out of gourds. They got a real kick out of that. I don't actually do this one any more because it feels odd to sit by myself, personifying produce. =)
I'll look forward to trying some of these out. Thanks for the great ideas!
