Fall Craft Ideas

Sometimes it seems like Mother Nature is showing off in the fall. With all the different colors in the trees, walking outdoors this season feels like exploring a gallery. That might be why people get so motivated to create works of their own in autumn.

This season, try to find ways to decorate the inside of your home with colors and shapes and materials that come from outdoors. Since I’ve been on the lookout for fun fall crafts, I’ve stumbled across a few activities that show off how colorful and creative fall can be.

Leaf it to Me - Pressing leaves has always been a fall favorite of mine. When I was a kid, there was a giant maple tree in my family’s backyard. Every year we pressed a few of our favorite leaves in the giant Complete Works of Shakespeare book from the top of our study room bookshelf. It’s been a few years since I’ve done any leaf pressing, but here’s an article on how to press, dry and sort leaves.

Pick on Someone Your Own Size - Apple picking is another fall favorite for many (especially if you live farther North). Every time I go, I end up with so many more apples than I can possibly eat in a few weeks’ time. Even after all the apple pies, applesauce, and apple strudel, I typically have plenty of fruit left over. I usually end up giving them away to friends and coworkers, but this fall, I’m trying to find some more unique ways to use my extra fruit. This article gives examples of three fun things to do with apples. I’ve never tried shrinking an apple, but it looks like a lot of fun!

Make a Dish - If you plan on using any of your picked apples to make warm cider, or if you have pumpkin latte plans this fall, you might especially enjoy these treats if they’re served in leaf-printed mugs. Creating seasonal dishware could be an especially fun activity for a cooler day. Most towns and cities have at least one pottery-painting store. This pottery-painting locator site may be helpful if you’re looking for a spot near you. What are some of your favorite seasonal crafts? Share in the comments; I’d love to try some new ones.
