Finding Our Inner Wisdom

“To believe that you need what you don’t have is the definition of insanity” ~Byron Katie

“[the belief] That you can’t be fulfilled until you get all these things. That is an illusion.” ~Dr. Wayne Dyer

I drew the above quotes from a movie I saw recently called “The Shift.” The movie is basically Dr. Wayne Dyer talking about life, purpose, fulfillment, and “the shift” –which happens when we are awakened to our heart’s inner callings.

The movie was inspiring, enlightening and spoke to me in a deeper place within.

Our lives are filled with hectic demands: to-do lists, tasks, projects, and goals. Our waking hours consist of chasing after all that we think we need to get done, and all that we think we need to accomplish before we can be happy.

Through all the “busy-ness,” we forget what’s important, and often our inner voices and inner purposes are lost in the confusion of “being busy.”

Through listening to Dr. Dyer talk in the movie, I was reminded of the importance of creating the time and space where I can connect with my own inner voice, and to gain the wisdom that only dwells in the silence of my being.

For me, this means making it a priority to make time every morning or evening to write, to meditate, to relax, to visualize, to contemplate and to read inspirational writing.

For you, the activities may be different. But the point is simple: to create daily habits of connecting with ourselves, and to silence the babbling of our minds so that our inner wisdom can be heard.

The challenge is in making these “rituals” a habit. And like all habits, they start small and become habits overtime through repetition.

Perhaps, the first step is to just start doing. Then continue doing it everyday, if possible. And before we know it, the “ritual” becomes a part of our daily experience—a healthy habit.
