Gardening and Other Great Springtime Activities
With the warm weather on its way, and spring showers revitalizing life outdoors, there’s no better time to spend some time outside enjoying the weather and all that spring has to share. Getting outdoors and doing activities in nature can help boost your good mood easily.
There are a number of ways you can spend time outside and get your hands dirty, especially with the days being longer and the sun shining for an extra hour. I’ve put together this list of ways you can get out in the garden, as well as other fun activities just perfect for spring.
• How Does Your Garden Grow? – I have a friend who took advantage of some recent nice weather to start the process of starting a vegetable garden. She and her husband designated a part of their yard just to grow their own favorite vegetables. She had fun getting outdoors, and is excited about the prospect of a “verdant 8′x6′ patch of awesome.” If gardening is something you’re interested in trying, it doesn’t have to be an expensive venture at all. Check out this post on Weekend Gardener for tips on buying used equipment. The site also has plenty of resources for whatever your gardening needs may be.
• Butterfly in the Sky – Speaking of gardens, you can start a different kind of crop other than vegetables when you start a butterfly garden. If you want a great activity for you and your kids, a butterfly garden is something you can spend a weekend on and enjoy for a long time. All you’ll need are various food plants to attract a variety of different butterflies. There’s even a plant called the “Butterfly Bush” that is not only beautiful on its own, but can attract some of the most gorgeous of flying insects.
• Have a Picnic – Grab a basket and fill it with sandwiches, fresh fruit and your favorite beverage and head to a local park or lake and have a picnic. Be sure to take a blanket that you won’t mind getting a little dirt on, and it might be a good idea to pack some bug spray in case any creepy crawlers show up. Be sure to check the weather before you go, though, as rain can ruin a perfectly good outing. Don’t let it spoil your mood, though, just move the picnic indoors.
• Set Up Camp – I mentioned how going camping can make you feel like a kid again, so you should take advantage of spring weather and set up camp before it gets too hot or muggy. If you’re a beginner camper, spring is the perfect time to get out into nature and see new life blooming all around. Just pick a weekend with weather that won’t be too hot or cold, and take just enough food but plenty of fresh water. And remember to always extinguish your campfires and clean up any trash you might have left behind.
Spring activities are good for individuals, groups, families, or anyone looking to enjoy the weather and changing of seasons in order to put them in a great mood. What are some of your favorite springtime activities?
