Get Over the Hump Day
Wednesdays are smack dab in the middle of the workweek, and that can sometimes make you feel like they are the longest days. Sometimes the toughest thing about Wednesdays is that the weekend is nowhere in sight, and the previous weekend seems like a blur. What is a hardworking person such as yourself to do? Stay optimistic, that’s what. Giving yourself a mood boost to keep your momentum through the week is just what you need on a Wednesday.
Keep yourself motivated with these pointers on how you can stay focused mid-way through the week.
• A.M. Exercise – One of my goals for this summer is to really start exercising first thing in the morning. It is a great way to get yourself going and to get the blood flowing, taking care of that grogginess that can often plague you until halfway through the day. Running or biking or other types of cardio can be a great natural way to increase your mood before you even set foot in the office. • Reward Yourself – At the end of your hard work day, one way to reset and recuperate is by giving yourself a little reward for making it through the first half of the week. Getting “over the hump” is a good opportunity to treat yourself with a special treat, like watching a movie or your favorite TV show. Don’t indulge too much, though, as you should keep your rewards as positive things rather than anything that could be detrimental to your good mood. Think of those rewards as mood stabilizers that activate your already positive outlook, rather than things to boost your mood from bad to good.
• Make Plans – By making plans for both the week and the weekend, you can have something to look forward to throughout your whole day. It helps to get over the hump if you have something to be excited about. Date nights are a great way to spend the mid-week nights, and having a meal at a restaurant is a good way for you and your loved ones to feel pampered.
• Stay Motivated – Part of getting through the week is about having the drive it takes to get going. Think of the little things that are important, and spend time on one piece at a time. Just because you have a lot to do before the end of the week doesn’t mean you won’t be able to manage it all. Just find the fun in what you’re doing, and remember to take breaks when you need to. Part of being motivated is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, but taking the time to make sure your steps will lead you there.
Wednesdays are sometimes difficult days to get through, but they don’t necessarily have to be. By making yourself feel good and important with rewards and challenges throughout the week, it will fly by with no hang-ups at all. How do you get over the Wednesday hump?
