How to Balance and Organize Your Life
Already, it feels like this year is flying by. But, the good thing about time moving so fast is that spring is right around the corner. That means warmer weather, sunshine late into the afternoon, and spring-cleaning. Part of being in a naturally good mood for me is having a clean and organized life, and springtime is just the right occasion for balancing all the things that might have gotten out of whack during the winter months. Staying organized and balanced is a great way to establish a naturally good mood, and having that sense of control over the things you own can keep them from owning you. Here are some tips and tools you can use to stay balanced and organized in your life.

- De-Clutter – Some people are notorious packrats. Keeping every little thing you pick up during your day can start to accrue into a pile of trash if you’re not careful. Before you even start to organize, it’s a good idea to go through your things and trash what you don’t REALLY need. De-cluttering is one of the harder parts of the organization process, but everything else will seem easier by comparison. Chances are likely that you’ve even got enough stuff to have a yard sale and make a little bit of cash for those items that are otherwise collecting dust.
- Consolidate and Sort – In order to organize your thoughts, it helps to compartmentalize and sort out what is most important first. The same can be said of organizing your stuff, too. Start in any room (I always like to start in the kitchen) and sort things by importance and daily use. Once you prioritize, you might even end up WITH more things that you can let go or pass on to someone else.
- Make a To-Do List – This one seems like a no-brainer, but if you’re not doing it already, now is as good a time as any to start a daily to-do list. You’ll find that you will get more done if you keep track of your daily tasks step-by-step. Again, it’s helpful to prioritize and get the big things out of the way first. - Get Things Done – It’s really easy to make excuses as to why you couldn’t get something done. None of us are saints, certainly; so don’t get discouraged if you can’t get it all finished in one day. - Relax – Part of staying organized is staying calm. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and frazzled when you look at tackling the whole beast of “getting organized.” Doing a little at a time will allow you to look at being organized as a gradual lifestyle change and not something you have to get done in a weekend.
These steps are just a few of the ways you can start to get your life to an organized and balanced place. There are plenty of ways to stay balanced naturally when it comes to organization; what are some of the ways you like to keep things in order?
