How to Feel Relaxed

“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I love learning about peace and happiness. One of my heroes and teachers on this path to personal enrichment is Dan Millman-- author for the phenomenal book called “The Peaceful Warrior”.

I saw Dan Millman give a talk at a personal development conference a few years ago. I don’t remember much detail about that conference, except a simple technique that Dan taught us on how to relax when moving about our hectic lives.

The technique is this: as you go about your day, ask yourself the three simple questions. The three questions are:

1. Am I breathing?
2. Am I relaxed?
3. Am I moving

Simple, right?

You can do this anywhere and anytime. The idea is to remind yourself to relax as you run about your day. In my own life, so often, I’ll be rushing through my day feeling tense and nervous.

Whenever I come back to these three questions, I’ll be reminded to relax, to calm the race in my mind, and to flow with the dance of life. Feeling relaxed, calm and peaceful is really just a breath away, and takes just a simple deliberate intent to want to relax.

You can practice this anywhere, and there are no hard rules. The three questions are just here as a guidance. You are free to change it up and do what feels comfortable.  The idea is to use this as an anchor to bring our racing minds back to this moment.

Here are some ideas for when you can try this:

Give this a try and let me know how it goes for you.
