How to Stay Optimistic in the Workplace

With layoffs threatening nearly every industry, a lot of people can’t help but feel a little afraid of what the future might hold. Your co-workers might be biting their nails or drinking more coffee or possibly just plain freaking out. Do your part by remaining positive and optimistic. Here’s some tips on how you can.

•    Think About What You’re Good At – Ask yourself what your positive attributes are. How do you contribute to the team? What are your strengths? Thinking about your own positive traits is a good way to boost the morale of everyone in the office.

•    Praise Good Work – Good feelings can come from small efforts, so by simply telling a coworker you appreciate what they do, you can feel good about making them feel good about what they’ve done. And who knows, maybe that good mood will be contagious and they’ll tell someone else as a result.

•    Ask for Help – There’s no reason to let yourself be drowning in work if there are others around who might be willing to help. If you need clarification on something, ask for that, too. Your boss or other co-workers would rather help you before you get too far behind, and they would probably ask you for help if they needed it, too.

•    Stay Healthy – It is easy to get stressed out if you are having a hard time with your health. According to one article, healthy employees can also enhance the company’s bottom line. Avoiding health issues in the beginning can also help a company in the long run.

•    Look for the Silver Lining – Being proactive in finding solutions for your company can help everyone avoid stress later on. By looking at some of the positive aspects of a potentially stressful situation, you can avoid seeing things in a negative light.

•    Feng Shui – Your office space itself can also have a lot to do with your mood in the workplace. By making the work environment an exciting place to be, workers will feel a lot less like they are working, and more like they are doing what they want to be doing. It can help productivity as well as help change things up when office life seems stale.

•    Sing a Happy Tune – I love to listen to music while I work, and it does wonders for my creativity and productivity. It can also have an impact on your psychological wealth. Music can also put you in a good mood if you choose the right tunes. For some suggestions, check out this post of 100 songs to put you in a great mood.
