Looking Forward to Summer!
As school years begin to end and temperatures begin to heat up (if you're in the Northern hemisphere, anyway) the feeling builds that summer is about to pop into full effect at any moment. I'm getting excited about all those things that you only get to do in summertime:

- Cooking outdoors. I love the primal feeling of preparing food surrounded by nature. You can grill just about anything and give it a delicious summery flavor. Asparagus! Pizza! Pineapple! Even shortcake for strawberry shortcake is better grilled!
- Swimming. It's one of those great kinds of exercise that feels like play and leaves you feeling refreshed.
- Parades. I know why I loved parades when I was a kid - because of all the free candy that was thrown at me. Now it's only the occasional rogue Tootsie Roll that flies my way, but I still love parades so much that I'll get up early on a Saturday to see one, and if you know how much I love sleeping in, that's saying a lot.
- Bare feet. Stick them in grass. Stick them in warm sand. Kick off your shoes and drive barefoot. It feels like rebellion!
- Outdoor music. Just like cooking outdoors, there's something that feels primal and a little bit naughty about outdoor music.
- Late day sun. The fact that it's still light out at 9 pm in mid-summer makes it feel like sunset lasts for hours ... romantic.
- Driving with windows rolled down. Doing that hand roller coaster in the wind thing.
- Baby animals. Spring might be when all the baby animals are born, but summer is when we get to see them all out and about. The trees are about to be full of mother squirrels squawking at their fat babies to get out of trash cans.
- Summer storms. Not the dangerous kind, but the dark growly ones that show up out of nowhere with wild wind and huge raindrops, then disappear as quickly as they came. Here in Southern California we're lucky to get one or two of these per summer, but in Nebraska they were an almost weekly summer occurrence.
- The feeling of being on vacation, even if you don't have one.
What are you looking forward to about summer?
-Brigitte

I'm looking forward to cold showers. I hate getting out of the shower when it's cold. You're rushing to dry yourself and put on layers of clothes to warm up. But nothing beats a cold shower on a really hot summer day.

I love the feeling of getting into my car and it being so hot that I immediately begin to sweat. And then saying "Screw it!" and head it on to the beach.
Also, my kid brother (who's a grunt in the USMC) always seems to manage to come home for the summer. This year will be no exception. =]

Hello,Brigitte.
In the summer, I always look forward to my birthday. As a child, I was off from school, so I could revel in the anticipation of it,rather than having other things like schoolwork getting in the way. There is something about birthday cake served outside on a picnic table, which is so much nicer. And its nearly 2 months 'till my next one (July 14th).
