Multi-Tasking Your Surroundings
I was recently sent a link to this article (thanks Phil!) about how residents of Los Angeles use the city itself as a jungle gym. It's true -- since moving here a couple summers ago I've become one of those people the article talks about.

Maybe it's the low amount of park space per capita, maybe it's the permanent perfect weather. But people in this town use every shape and surface of city as a workout apparatus. I'll give you the fact that LA seems to have more than its share of vanity and that sometimes working out on public becomes more about being seen flexing than being healthy. But for the most part I'm proud of the creativity people are using to re-purpose steps and trees and rocks as a free alternative to a gym membership.
I also have a spot on a local beach that I use as a little "office space" sometimes because of the desk-shaped rock I found there. Whether you've lived in a town all your life or you just moved there, using its public spaces for something personal will only help you love your city more.

I don't have anything useful like that in my town. It's all flat and boring.

Hello,Brigitte.
I have done that in my life. It is a bit hilly here, and I can get a decent workout, when I go bicycling. Having a full set of 4 seasons, helps change the surroundings, so I never get bored with the scenery.

I love your videos and wish the Sam-e people would see them and ask that you make your fans happy by doing a lovely video for us. Not that I haven't enjoyed your essays. But I love the videos. Miss them. Love them.
