New Year’s Resolution Check In
Doesn’t it seem like January was just yesterday? Well, unfortunately, it wasn’t, and we’re hitting the halfway point of the year. So how are your New Year’s resolutions coming along?
Self-improvement and lifestyle changes can help in establishing a positive mood naturally. Whether you are looking to become more physically fit or want to take steps to improve your mental health, resolutions to change are a great move in the right direction.
Many people have goals for the New Year that they can’t seem to get started, while others have made progress far beyond their expectations. Whether your goal was to lose weight or stop smoking, here are a few ways you can kick your resolution back into overdrive.
Stick to Your Exercise Plan – It is difficult to get yourself a new habit, especially if it’s a “good” habit. In order to stick to your exercise plan, you have to get into a routine and not stray from it. It is also easy to make excuses as to why you can’t exercise. Friends, family, and work can all get in the way, but carving out time to exercise can actually help you find more time in the day, as exercise can help you get to deep sleep faster and be able wake up more easily. Working out is difficult because it feels just like that sometimes: work. Another idea to keep yourself in the exercise habit is to find a physical activity that you really enjoy. It could be a sport or a class such as yoga or Pilates. There are numerous ways you can keep yourself physically active; all it takes is finding what you enjoy.
Butt Out – There’s no benefit to smoking. There are plenty of excuses to smoke, but not a single benefit. So if you set out to finally quit this year, stop making excuses and just do it. Smoking is detrimental to being able to maintain a good mood and can have serious risks to your physical and mental health. Quitting smoking today is a step in the right direction. It is, however, a difficult thing to give up cold turkey. Luckily there are plenty of programs available to help you quit naturally. Just go to SmokeFree.gov for more info.
Save Up – This economy is uncertain, definitely, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still save money if you put your mind to it. Saving can be difficult, especially when it seems like there is no end in sight to how the economy keeps fluctuating. Don’t fret, though, just know that you aren’t alone. In fact, it helps to look at all the things you DO have, rather than focusing on the things you don’t. You can even use this as an excuse to “trim the fat” and cut back on expenses that aren’t necessary. You can look at the recession as a positive thing, because it might just get you back on track toward saving. For more information and tips and tricks on saving money, check out Feed the Pig.
Whether you started the year off right and have since slacked off, or if you have yet to begin your plan for 2009, there is still plenty of time. Resolutions don’t have to mean you have to abide by rules you set up for yourself since January 1, but saying “it’s too late” is the wrong attitude. Everyday can be the start of a new year if you want it to be. What are the resolutions you want to accomplish this year?
