Pump Yourself Up! Get Confident for a Good Mood

Developing self-confidence is one of the key factors to pumping yourself up for a good mood.  However, this is much easier said than done.  How does one go about developing self-confidence?  What are the secrets to developing a healthy attitude towards oneself?  One of the ways to develop and maintain a good mood naturally is by believing in yourself and who you are. Sometimes it takes a little pep talk or a few self-motivating personal adjustments to really feel good about who you are.

Pep Talk
One of the tried and true ways to pump yourself up for the day or for a better mood is to give yourself a good, old-fashioned pep talk.  Talk to yourself every once and a while and tell yourself how far you’ve come, what you have accomplished, how capable you are, and how you have the ability to handle any challenge that comes your way.  Even look at yourself in the mirror or grab yourself by the ear and go off into a corner and tell (or remind) yourself that you have already overcome so much in your life and that you will be able to handle any challenge presented to you.   

Pep talks are particularly effective when preparing for a major test at school, a new physical challenge at the gym, a big presentation at work, or a serious business meeting.  They can give you the extra boost you may need to walk into that boardroom or classroom with confidence.  Regular pep talks are also a good idea for setting your mind and thoughts in a positive direction each and every day.

Groom and Dress Yourself Properly
Though it has been said that clothes don’t make the man, it has also been said that clothes do affect the way that man feels about himself.  Dressing in well fitted, stylish, appropriate clothing causes you to stand taller, walker more authoritatively, and interact with people more assertively.  Dressing well helps a person feel more secure and confident nearly instantly.  Spending a little extra time in the morning to shave, floss, pick out something suitable to wear, or maybe even dab on some light cologne can also give you that extra lift you may need to make it through the day with a positive, healthy outlook.  Maybe even take up some light exercise, depending on your skill level, and begin trimming those extra pounds off your waist.  Placing a little more investment in your physical appearance can be a critical first step toward pumping yourself up for a good mood.

Think of Others

Though this post is about how to better your mood, it is important to point out the power of complimenting others.  When you compliment some else’s work, dress, appearance, or performance, you are making an effort to focus on the positive aspects of that person.  Focusing on others’ positive qualities is excellent practice for focusing on your own positive qualities.  Complimenting others, whether it be a co-worker, family member, or friend, can help you look at yourself in a different way, in a new way, in a positive way.  This new positive self-image is the substance that breeds self-confidence. 

Body Language
How we hold and present ourselves on the outside is evidence of how we feel on the inside. Our body language is such an important indicator of how we feel about ourselves. In order to gain more self-confidence, try readjusting your posture. Stand up a little straighter, hold your shoulders back, pick your chin up, make eye contact, and walk just a step faster than usual. More assertive body language allows you to project self-confidence that can ultimately becoming imbedded in the inside. Making these outward changes may seem insignificant, but holding yourself in a more assertive, controlled, and confident manner can help you combat negative mood swings and give you a firm sense of security and strength. 

As you can see, pumping yourself up to make a more confident you can take on a variety of different shapes and sizes.  Simple adjustments to how you think, feel, act, and carry yourself are the keys to developing a stable, consistent sense of self-confidence.
