Quotation Tuesday 21!

This Quotation Tuesday is a 2-for-1 special. I found these two quotes floating around loose in the world, and decided they would make nice bookends for a day.

Okay so here's how it works. The first quote is for you to say out loud right after you wake up in the morning. Yes I am making these instructions up right now, as I go. But you must say the first quote out loud. Three times actually.

It's easy for me to do this because Maddy is the only one watching, and she seems to enjoy hearing motivational quotes. But if you don't live alone with a dog who enjoys literature you can say it quietly to yourself while the shower is running. Just so long as you say it:

"All the windows of my heart I open to the day."  ~John Greenleaf Whittier

Sure it's bit flowery and poetic. But it's the first thing in the morning, and hopefully at this point you're not all cynical and too-cool-for school just yet. Say it. Now go about your day with all your heart windows open. Get the breeze up in there.

By the end of the day, that quote has probably about worn off. Things inevitably happened that knocked the feeling of open heart windows out of your head. And now you're no longer in the mood for something pretty. That's why the going-to-bed quote is not so flowery and you don't have to say it out loud. Just put it on a little note to yourself on the bedstand so you remember to read it, last thing before you close your eyes.

"Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I find that quote incredibly comforting. I tend to lay in bed tormenting myself with thoughts of what I should have done differently throughout the day, and what could have been. I need someone to tell me to be done with it.

Ralph Waldo Emerson says you have done what you could. Don't argue with him. Go to sleep and start fresh again tomorrow. Again and again and again.

Just because I don't say "Huzzah!" at each and every post doesn't mean it isn't read and appreciated. i just don't like the word, huzzah.
