SAM-e Monthly Contest - September - What's Your Good Mood Mantra?

"The glass is half full," is a great example of a phrase that you might tell yourself in order to keep your head above water. What do you tell yourself to stay in a good mood? One of the things I always say to myself when things are looking less than stellar is: What are you gonna do? I ask myself this not to abandon whatever problem that presents itself, but to really understand if there is anything I can do about a situation. If there is, then I try my best to fix what I can. If there is nothing I can do, then I get it out of my way as quickly as I can.

So what do you tell yourself? Do you sing a song or count to ten? Do you smile and give yourself an internal peptalk? Tell us what you say to motivate yourself by leaving a comment in the box below this post. The 10 best responses at the end of the month will be each awarded with a month supply of Nature Made SAM-e Complete®. All comments are subject to approval, so if you don't see your comment show up right away, please be patient. Remember, as always, your comment or any linked content must be original to you and must comply with all of the Official Rules. We’ll be judging your entries based on the following criteria:

1. Creativity – Be as creative as you want with this. In the past, we’ve received poems, stories, and all around hilarious entries for contests, so the more creative you are, the better your chances.

2. How Clearly and Effectively the Entry Message is Conveyed – Make sure your comment makes sense to at least one other person before you send it.

3. Relevance to the Subject of the Contest Question – Not just any answer will do. Make sure what you’re submitting answers the question.

Like you I don't think there is one quick fix to a better mood, but my 'cures' depend on what it is that is bringing me down and of course where I am at in that particular moment!

If I am at home, I do like blasting 'happy' songs or just cheesy pop songs with a catchy beat and singing and dancing. Or I'll play a silly game on the Wii like Just Dance.

If I'm not at home, I'll use deep breathing, and a meditation mantra in my mind of course, like 'OM' and and I'll couple it with another word like 'God' or 'Love' and it will usually calm me down!

In the big picture of life... will this realy matter a year from now? Two? Three? Will I even remember it? And if no one got hurt physicaly that is good and if it was an emotional hurt, empathize or apologize and mean it.

"Stop thinking.....
for just this moment....
Stop thinking......"
This creates inner space and peace of mind

"I do not know, show me!...."
This creates receptivity for something greater.

"I let go and let be......"
This creates an inner atmosphere of 'Acceptance' and dissipates Fear.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world"
This aligns you with your own Highest potential.

"Pay Attention"
This helps the intellect see the greater wisdom through observing the changes which occur because you decided to change your thoughts.

"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity, an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."-Winston Churchill

For me to remain positive, I must always understand that making the best of a situation involves understanding to accept the things I can't control. The trick is to know what is within your reach and seize every opportunity.

An opportunity can be anything. It can be as small as learning to get along with that certain co-worker. It can be as big as finding the time to create that business you always knew was a good idea. Think big in the long run but work at a steady pace you can realistically handle. Build upon your mistakes instead of dwelling upon them; eventually you will have something great. Eventually your life will be great. :)

It's been a little bit more of a challenge lately to stay positive. Whenever I'm not at home and I feel on edge I just think of my favorite Seinfeld episodes famous quote.."Serenity Now!" and giggle when I run through the episode in my head. Works every time. I keep my spirits up at home with my oddball talkative kitties or my funny little wiggly Velcro puppy bouncing around. Snaps me out of it every time.If everyone is passed out, I watch comedians on my DVR or listen to them on my mp3 player. Science has shown that smiling when you are sad or in a bad mood, it will improve your mood, even if you have to force it.

i repeat one simple word when anything in life gets to me...Breathe! and then i focus on my breathing.

Pamilla Smith Tuesday, September 07, 2010

I remember the verse Joshua 1:9

Be strong and courageous , do not be terrified; do not be discourage for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Then, I tell myself I am going through hard times, so I will be compassionate and understanding and better able to help others going through a rainy day and difficult times.

Alexis Ferrell Tuesday, September 07, 2010

I always tell myself I have to be strong for my children. Sometimes it is so hard, I feel so down or upset and I ask myself "WHY" Why can't I be happy. I don't like feeling this way but how do I cange it? Music is also a good help.

COURAGE - ALL IN THE NAME

Fear is anxious. Rather nurture a sense of adventure.

Fear is judgmental. Rather cultivate a sense of wonderment.

Fear is retreat. Rather embrace a sense of curiosity.

I am most courageous whensoever I feel my fear - and proceed anyway.

And sometimes I am remember, and sometimes I am able, to replace and rename my fear, calling it instead: Curiosity, Wonderment, Adventure

When things really get out of control I have to stop and think about the good that will always out weigh the bad things in my mind.
I repeat "I believe,I believe" to myself and I do .I believe in a higher power who can and does give me strength to continue. He always has and always will,I believe.

Stacy Thursday, September 09, 2010

I always ask myself, "Is it worth it?" Is it worth the time and energy I am going to expend to get upset or angry, or is my time of more import than what I am dealing with? When i put it into those categoies, I win every time. Do the best i can do every day and let the things i can't control float on by.

Whenever I feel down or under appreciated I recite a poem from Shel Silverstein...

Listen to the MUSTN'TS, child,
Listen to the DON'TS
Listen to the SHOULDN'TS
The IMPOSSIBLES, the WON'TS
Listen to the NEVER HAVES
Then listen close to me--
Anything can happen, child,
ANYTHING can be.

- Shel Silverstein

I try to remain positive. But I don't seem to have time to reflect on words of wisdom when I get stressed. But, the SAMe has helped me when I wake up each day, I don't dread the day! It's great!

LACEY HART Thursday, September 16, 2010

I would love to try out sam-e, some days I just feel off even with my current meds. I think with sam-e (being natural)it would work better and eventually I could tapper off of the synthetic drugs.

When worrying about the little things in life is getting me down, I like to ask myself, "what's the worst that could happen?"

First I amuse myself by imagining odd or archaic consequences for my mistake (like picturing myself in stocks at the local mall or being forced to issue a public apology in my underwear). Once I'm smiling, I often realize that things aren't as bad as they seem. I'm often feeling grouchy, overwhelmed, or depressed about problems or mistakes that will only cost me a few extra dollars or a little extra time or effort to resolve...no public humilation required! :)

The message I try to send myself is don't sweat the small stuff. If I cant seem to get out of the mood with that I have to just be alone for a while and focus on what is good in my life and that seems to help

My children and my students can now
better benefit from my calmness and clear
state of mind, so that they can go out and do something good for the world.

Kristin Fall Sunday, September 26, 2010

A line or idea from Eat, Pray, Love ( by Elizabeth Gilbert), gets me through:
Smile
Then smile with your whole face,
Then smile with your heart
Smile with all of you
Smile with your liver!

Patricia Sanchez Monday, September 27, 2010

Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day. -ps Don't sweat the small stuff, life's too short. Keep in mind that family and friends can be the best medicine.

From the time that I was 14, (I'm 54 now) I've always counted to my age slowly whenever I need a break from a stressful situation. When I was younger counting to the smaller number was enough time to relax and see the situation in a different light. As I've aged, I've found that the little extra time helps since the problems are larger and the thinking a tad slower. I've found this system to be very beneficial when accompanied by a quiet, solitary place and slow breathing, but it also works in crowed situations if you really concentrate on nothing except your counting and breathing.

Patricia Sanchez Monday, September 27, 2010

I always tell myself "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift that's why they call it the present." I'm a very spiritual person taking time to revaluate things and take things day by day. I'm bless to have a loving family & friends that's there for me. Live in the moment is my motto.

Denise Monday, September 27, 2010

Just focus on today and what I will do to make today the best I can. Don't dwell, let it go and move on.
