Take a Class / Start a Group
Part of maintaining a good mood is by staying connected to others who share common interests. For some, it can be something they haven’t done in years. I remember some of my happiest memories are from days I spent with my friends doing activities together that we all enjoyed.
You can get together with like-minded people in a variety of ways. First, you can always attend a class or group or workshop of an interest you’ve had before, or something new you want to try. There are often arts centers or community centers that offer courses in just about anything, like sculpting, photography, writing, or cooking. Check your local paper or your city’s entertainment magazine for upcoming classes or group activities.
There’s also the option of taking a class at a rec center to learn a new game, sport, or other physical activity. There are often leagues forming for amateurs and others adults who just want to stay active and have fun. I have a friend who recently joined an indoor soccer league and she seems to absolutely love it! In case you don’t have any good ideas of things you might like to try, here’s a list of activities for your consideration:
- Improv Comedy
- Pottery
- Cartooning
- Kickboxing
- Roller Derby
- Capoeira
- Tai Chi
- Calligraphy
- Ukulele
- Yoga
- Photography
- Exotic Cooking
- Swing Dancing
The other way you can get together with others is by starting something on your own. Using social media or even just knocking on doors, you never know who you’ll find that might share an interest. Start a book club, a writing group, or even a sewing circle. No matter what you’re interested in, there are likely plenty of other people in your area with the same interests. All it takes is a single push to getting the ball rolling.
