When we’re stuck in traffic, or rushing to get somewhere on time, or playing taxi, driving can feel a lot more like a chore than a fun way to relax. However, taking a serene and peaceful drive can really do a lot to help you find a good mood. Here's a list of some of the most pleasant scenic drives you can take. Who knows? Maybe there are some of them in your area of the world.

- Blue Ridge Parkway – Spanning the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia, the Blue Ridge Parkway is considered one of the most beautiful stretches of highway in the U.S. The 469-mile trek hugs the Appalachian Mountains, and features such impressive peaks as Grandfather Mountain and Pilot Mountain.
- Death Valley Scenic Byway – For a hot, dry and yet amazingly unique driving experience, look no further than California’s Death Valley Scenic Byway, aka California Route 190. Home to rare desert wildlife and interesting rock formations, this 187-mile byway is considered the gateway to Death Valley.
- The Hawaii Belt – On Hawaii’s Big Island, highways 11, 19, and 190 combine to make up a gorgeous and tropical driving excursion. The Belt circles the entire island and is a must-do for anyone visiting the aloha state.
- Pacific Coast Highway – Another scenic California drive, this one spans 656 miles and is an amazing opportunity to take in all that the Pacific coast has to offer. Here’s a tip if you’re going to make the journey: drive from north to south for a better view of the ocean and an easier time pulling off for viewpoints.
- Red Rock Scenic Byway – This Arizona highway is not only a scenic drive, but it also has plenty to see and do along the way. Plus, many Western films were shot here, so if things look familiar, that’s probably why.
- Going-to-the-Sun Road – This Montana road won’t ACTUALLY take you to the sun, but the serenity of the atmosphere might make you think you’re somewhere cosmic. With such great sights as St. Mary Lake and Logan Pass, you’ll want to give yourself enough time to take in all the beauty.
- Rim of the World Scenic Byway – The year round beauty of this California road is a great way for Los Angelesians to get away from the hustle of LA traffic and trade it in for a drive much more gorgeous and unique.
- San Juan Skyway – A 236-mile Colorado loop, the San Juan Skyway features such majestic mountains as Lizard Head Peak and Red Mountain Pass. Also known as “the road to the sky,” the skyway shows off the San Juan Mountains in all their splendor.
- The Mohawk Trail – This Massachusetts trail was once a Native American trade road and became one of the first scenic highways in the U.S. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway, then look no further than this historic and beautiful locale.
- Denali National Park & Preserve – If you’ve ever considered a trip to Alaska, this might be the excuse you’ve been looking for to finally get there. Home to Mount McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America, Denali National Park and Preserve is also home to some incredible views of a magnificent skyline.
