Workout Tools That Feel Like Toys
Are you in an exercise funk? Are you having trouble getting motivated to work out? But remember how exciting it was to get a new toy when you were a kid? Maybe it's time for a trip to the toy store.
Here's a few pieces of workout gear that can make exercise feel like play.
1. Hula Hoops. Hula hooping alone in my house feels a little silly. And hula hooping in an organized group would be even more comical. I'm afraid I would start laughing and not be able to keep the gyrations going. But in more and more gyms across the country, there are new workout classes based on hula hooping. And hula hooping isn't just a workout for waists - you can do hula with your arms and legs too for more of a full-body workout. They even sell weighted hoops for a more intense workout.
Tip: when you're getting started, don't hula near breakables.
2. The Inflatable Workout Ball. The exercise ball has been around for years now… it's passed the test of time and proven it's not just a gimmick but a true piece of workout equipment that can offer a comfortable, low-impact way to work core muscles. I use one as a computer chair at my desk sometimes, but that's the least fun way I use it. If you really want to challenge your muscles, play with the exercise ball the way a child would. Sit on it and roll off. Try to balance on it on your stomach like superman. When no one's around, sit down and bounce on it across the room.
Tip: Watch where you bounce. I hit an exposed carpet tack and deflated my exercise ball like a huge whoopee cushion.
3. Jump rope. Jumping rope was so fun when we were kids. I didn't remember how tough it was! If you get bored easily with repetitive workouts, try getting a jump rope and working towards a fancy "Rocky"-esque jump rope routine. You know, with the fancy rope twirls and different steps. You'll be amazed at how intense this workout is.
Tip: The key to not being frustrated and tripped up in your rope is all about the length - take time to carefully adjust the rope length (see how here) before you begin.

I jump rope as part of my regular work out routine. Its really good and probably the only form of cardio I can stand.
A friend of mine would sit on an excercise ball all day at her job. If there was a staff meeting she'ld roll her ball into the conference room. She got others to join in too.

Hello,Brigitte.
Just the image of your exercise ball making a whoopy cushion noise made me LOL. Was Maddy nearby, to give a disgusted look? Or perhaps a "Not me THIS time" look?

haha my mom bought a weighted hula hoop a while back, it really did tone her stomach but then it hurt her back :/
and i'm not surprised, it was heavy! I like bruised my hip trying to whip it around once haha
