Zen in the Office
Feng Shui in the workplace? Hey, it couldn’t hurt, right? Livening up your cubicle could make a great change in your mood. Though I am no expert when it comes to organization or the ancient art of Feng Shui, here are some of the things I might recommend to make things around your cubicle a little more “zen.”

- Rearrange - By rearranging your desk and even the way your chair faces, you can really open things up. If nothing else, the change of scenery might invigorate something in your mood.
- Green Way - Putting a plant by your desk is one way to give yourself a reminder of the outdoors.
- Low Light - Get a small lamp for your desk rather than using overhead fluorescent lighting.
- Mirror, Mirror - Adding mirrors around your space can also make your environment bigger than it really is.
- Tidy Up - Clutter around your desk space can add to mental clutter, so keep that in mind when you see things on your desk start to literally pile up.
- Brighten Up – Though you might not be able to paint the walls where you work, you can certainly liven the accoutrement around you with bright or otherwise pleasing colors.
- Water, Water Everywhere – I like to drink water while I’m at work, but I’ve been thinking about getting a little fountain for my desktop. Photos or paintings of water are good because they can help inspire creativity and a sense of movement.
- Motivate – If you want to motivate yourself, find inspirational images and symbols to adorn your surroundings. Anything from powerful phrases to images that put you in a relaxed, yet focused mood are great to keep around.
It doesn’t matter if you are Feng Shui master or not, the point here is that you should create a work environment that helps you feel happy and productive. What are some of the things you do to make sure you stay motivated and in a great mood at work?
